The honest truth

Most energy upgrades go wrong before they start

This is what's gone wrong with our industry. Too many homeowners are sold a product instead of a plan. Too many quotes are inflated to cover “subject to survey” extras everyone knows are coming. Too many installers disappear the day the certificate is issued.

What goes wrong

You've probably heard a friend's horror story already.

The oversized boiler

The boiler that's too big for the house, short-cycling itself into early failure.

Solar before insulation

The solar panels fitted before the loft insulation, so half the benefit drifts straight up through the ceiling.

The “free” sales survey

The “free survey” that's really a sales visit, conducted by someone whose commission depends on you signing the same evening.

The vanishing installer

The friendly engineer who turned out to be a subcontractor of a subcontractor of a company that's no longer answering its phone.

We do it differently, and have done for fifteen years. We start with your home: what it's losing, where it's losing it, what it actually needs, and what makes financial sense for your specific situation. The recommendation we give you is the one that's right for you. Even if it's smaller, cheaper or slower than what we could have sold you. Even if it means waiting six months and doing something else first. Even if it means we suggest you don't do the job at all.

It sounds obvious. It's rare. And when you experience it, it changes what you expect from a contractor for the rest of your life.

How it works

From first call to long-term aftercare: the full journey

We've refined this process across 1,879+ homes. Every step has a purpose. Every handover has a checklist. Nothing is left to “we'll see what happens”.

  1. An engineer measuring an existing radiator during a home survey

    The Free Home Survey

The first thing we do is listen. Which rooms feel cold? Where do you spend most of your time? When are the bills hurting most? What's already been done, and what was promised but never quite delivered? Then a qualified surveyor, not a salesperson, walks the property with the kit appropriate to the work you're considering. We don't bring LiDAR scanning to a boiler swap, and we don't bring just a clipboard to a solid-wall job on a 1900s terrace. Different work calls for different evidence:

Heat pumpsthermal imaging, LiDAR-assisted 3D scanning, room-by-room heat-loss modelling, hot-water demand profiling, acoustic siting analysis.
Solar PVdrone aerial photography and photogrammetry for accurate roof geometry and shading, plus energy modelling against twelve months of your real bills.
Insulationthermal imaging cameras lead the survey, with borescope cavity inspections, moisture meters and a careful look at ventilation.
Boilers and central heatingvisual inspection, system pressure and flow testing, power-flush assessment, balancing checks, and a sensible heat-loss estimate.
Whole-house retrofitall of the above layered together, exactly as PAS 2035 expects.

You get the survey free, in writing, with the photos, thermal imagery, drone shots, scan data and calculations relevant to your property. You keep all of it whether you go ahead or not.

  2. A written retrofit plan and drawings laid out on a work table

    Your Bespoke Retrofit Plan

A few days after the survey, you receive a written, jargon-free plan. It tells you:

    • What we recommend, in what order, and why.
    • What it will cost, itemised, not lumped together.
    • What it will probably save you, based on real data from comparable homes (not best-case modelling).
    • What grant funding you may qualify for, and whether it's worth pursuing.
    • What we don't recommend doing, and why we'd leave it for now.

We design phased retrofits so each year improves on the last.

  3. An engineer fitting a radiator pipe during a clean, tidy install

    The Installation

Same engineers we'd send to our own mothers' houses. Same standards on a £4,000 boiler swap as on a £40,000 deep retrofit:

    • Personally qualified for the specific work: Gas Safe for gas, MCS for renewables, Part P for electrical.
    • Manufacturer-backed equipment, properly commissioned to spec.
    • Dust sheets, shoe covers, daily cleardown.
    • A daily check-in with you so you always know what's happening tomorrow.
    • Photos taken at every stage so we have a record, and so do you.
  4. Balancing the system and setting the heating controls at handover

    Handover & Long-Term Aftercare

When the job is finished, we don't just leave the manuals on the side and head off. We walk you through every control until you're comfortable. We register every warranty in your name. We file every certificate with the relevant body and send you the copy. We take the rubbish away. We come back two weeks later for a check-in call, and again at six months and twelve months.

After that, we're still here. A real number, answered by a real human. For warranty work, advice on phase two, or just a question, for as long as you own the home.

Help with the cost

Government support is real, and we'll tell you exactly what you qualify for

Energy upgrades aren't small, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. But there's genuine support available, and a meaningful part of our job is making sure you don't miss out on funding you're entitled to. Before you commit to a single thing, we'll review your eligibility and walk you through any scheme that might apply to your home and circumstances.

Funding routes our customers commonly access include:

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme

Up to £7,500 off the cost of an air source heat pump.

Government-funded, deducted directly from your quote. We're MCS-certified and handle the Ofgem submission. You never pay it out and wait to claim it back.

Local authority retrofit grants

Varying by region and household income.

Local schemes change often. We track the live ones in the regions we work, check eligibility for your address, and tell you honestly whether it's worth the application effort.

0% finance

For projects where grant funding doesn't apply.

Spread the cost interest-free over several years, subject to standard credit checks. A clean monthly figure with no surprises buried in the small print.

A note we always make: grant funding sometimes comes with restrictions, on equipment choice, on future flexibility, or on what other works can be done at the same time. We'll explain those trade-offs clearly so you can make a properly informed call. We'll never push you towards a grant scheme if it isn't genuinely the best route for you.

What our customers say

Less about the kit. More about the experience.

They told me to sort the loft insulation before we talked about a heat pump. That single sentence was why I hired them. No one else had suggested the cheaper job first.
Emma C.Southampton · Semi-detached, 1930s
Quote matched the invoice to the pound. The team were in and out in four days, left the kitchen cleaner than they found it, and the new boiler's knocked about £40 a month off our bills.
David R.Sheffield · Victorian terrace
We had three surveys before theirs. Theirs was the only one that explained what wouldn't work in our house. That's how we knew.
Mark & Louise T.Nottingham · 1970s detached
